ClearPod Validation for Septic System solution in China
In China, formidable efforts been ongoing since 2006 to reach the milestone of 90% treatment of rural wastewater by 2040. In 2006, only 1% of rural wastewater was treated and in 2015 that number increased to 11.4%. To further improve upon those numbers, ClearPod was tested to be a valid solution.
ClearPod Technology was tested as a solution for under-performing septic systems in China. In partnership with ALCLE, ClearPod was proposed for existing septic systems in China to address their design flaws.
Solution:
A 3-chamber septic tank was identified as under-performing in Guangzhou, China in May of 2017. The septic system serves a single home with 2 bathrooms, 5 occupants and it discharges into a small leaching field.
Validation
With the addition of ClearPod to the first chamber of the 3-chamber septic tank, the effluent BOD levels were reduced to 25.1 mg/L marking a 93% removal rate. The design flaw was mitigated due to the significant removal of BOD. ClearPod removed organic solids before they reach the leaching field. The reduction of organics alleviates the leachfield from organic loading and allow it to percolate water through the soil profile. The increased performance of the septic system increases the system’s lifetime. This testing validates ClearPod as a robust, energy efficient, drop-in solution to existing septic systems in China to enhance their overall performance.
